NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The MTA introduced a serious milestone for its contactless cost system.

The One Metro New York system had its 1 millionth faucet final Thursday, occurring on the Fulton Heart Transit Hub.

The brand new system launched in Might. As a substitute of swiping a MetroCard, riders pays at turnstiles by tapping a mobile phone, smartwatch, or contactless credit score or debit card with a digital pockets.

Proper now OMNY is on the 4, 5, and 6 strains, and all Staten Island buses.

The MTA says the contactless system will increase to all MTA subway strains by 2021. The MetroCard will stay till 2023.
